Hashing is a data encryption process. The hashing process generates a cryptographic code for the underlying information. Hashing increases the security of the initial data and prevents others from tampering with the data during transmission.

In a Proof of Work blockchain network, hashing is used to make new data blocks. At the end of the hashing process, miners race to determine the encryption code (block hash) of the block.
