A block hash is a block’s unique id number. It is the code output of the encryption process (hashing) for the block’s data. Each block in a blockchain is given both its own block hash and the block hash of the previous block.

In the mining process, miners race to guess the block hash of a new block. The winner gets to add the new block to the blockchain.
